San Francisco Floating House

The Floating House is located on Mission Creek, a backwater canal within the City of San Francisco once surrounded by industrial zones. Nested permanently sith 19 other floating houses, the blue & white house is like a New York City loft on the water. Recalling the area’s industrial past, the house has modern metal paneling and a saw-tooth roof features commonly found in the large older factories and warehouses (now re-purposed into high-tech office space) found nearby. Inside the white volume, one large room contains the social areas where friends and family all gather. Large warehouse style windows allow views to the water below and the San Francisco Skyline. Orange paint, the same color used on the Golden Gate bridge, is use on the front door, the metal stair and tile in the kitchen. The interiors reflect a deep interest in California Coastal Modern styling.
