Ginger Bread Houses..............December 21, 2023

Buckminister’s Geodesic Dome gets the full treatment. An Eskimo would like this one best, probably

I enjoy seeing gingerbread houses during htis time of the season. For many, it’s a tradition and for others, it’s a fun creative outlet for anyone in the building industry. For Architecture Wonks, a gingerbread house done to resemble a famous house design is always fun. One does have to figure out what edible materials work the best to resemble certain building materials. The easiest to build and certainly the most true to the Buckminster Fuller’s dymaxion ideas is this geodesic dome. One material cut in the same shape and then fastened together at the edges. Bucky talked alot about “tensegrity” but all domes work in compression when the sphere doesn exceed beyond its half-sphere shape. After that, its tensegrity.

The Villa Savoye….…. The candy cane columns appear to be struggling…

  1. The Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier: A machine for eating: Pretty good but doesn’t quite capture the crispness and spartan quality of the original. But that’s alright—it’s Christmas. The strip windows are sticks of blue gum.

  2. Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright: Looks great. If I did one, I would probably use Rice Krispy marshmellow bricks for the masonry.

  3. RV Camper: I like this one alot. Many people own a camping trailer because its different from their house. Change is fun…The same applies to Ginger Bread houses.

Falling Water. who knew that Ginger Bread is the structural material of the future?

The RV: It would be hard to eat this one.—Is so very good. The hitch, I think, is on the wrong end.

Gingerbread Mid Century Modern House with a carport…..Sweet ride (the T-bird) in a sweet house.

The most fun would be doing your own house, in my opinion.
