Bongo Burger

Robert Nebolon Architects was asked to design a new burger establishment as a tenant improvement inside a 1930’s single story retail space with high ceilings and one existing skylight placed in the center. The original beautiful Art Deco building facade composed of glazed Black tile and silver tile was concealed behind a cheap aluminum “modernization” in the early 1960’s.

Our work entailed the removal of the aluminum to reveal the original Art Deco styling with new signage that kept the Art Deco Spirit. Inside, the order station was placed under the original skylight with a new dramatic wood cantilevered trellis to energize the space and the daylight from the skylight directly above. The 1960’s aluminum Storefront was removed and replaced with new wood folding doors.
