Vaastu Shastra House

The house design is based on the East Indian planning principle called Vaastu Shastra which was then modified to adapt to the California outdoor living for an “East meets West” fusion. The wooded site is triangular-shaped and is squeezed between the street and a creek. To fit on the site and address Vaastu Shastra, the final building form evolved into a 3-wing solution where the wings skew at a 15 degree angle to each other-allowing gardens and daylight to penetrate the house in unexpected ways to satisfy the Brahmasthan. Each wing is a different level: the north wing being the lowest, the south wing the highest. The center wing, directly aligned with the North-South cardinal compass points for excellent Vaastu Shastra, has large folding glass doors on two opposite side which allow the blue-stone terrace to flow thru the house from south to north. Inside, the high light-monitors provide natural daylight for optimal light for the modern East Indian Art collection.
